Read Across the Country Initiative

About the Read Across the Country Initiative
A national Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) revealed that at least half of Ghana’s school children were unable to read by 2nd grade. Inadequate access to books is among the multitude of factors contributing to this low reading performance among Ghana’s children.
Heritage Village Project “Read Across the Country Initiative” is one of the campaigns to provide access to good and proper educational literature which will inspire and transform communities through reading and book clubs.

How it Works
Heritage Village Project in partnership with Culture Encounters provides free books, educational materials, scholarships, learning equipment and resource facilities to support local communities across Africa.
With the support of friends, families, partners and sponsors, books and resources donated by organizations and individuals are boxed and shipped overseas by a shipping partner company. Upon arrival, the local team facilitates the effective distribution of books and materials to children across the country.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step and since the initial launch of this initiative, birthed as a thoughtful gesture of giving back, over 15,000 books, scholarships ,uniforms and educational materials have been distributed to different local schools.

Community Impact
As the mission continues to expand to meet the growing demand, more opportunities are being created to inspire and train emerging leaders. Through education, mentorship and community development initiatives, children benefit from cultural specific programs which positively impact their present and help shape their future. Heritage Village Project continues to count on the generous support of partners to join on this journey to renovate, build quality eco-friendly libraries and facilities to transform lives, one community at a time.
